Dynaco Stereo 70 and PAS2 Preamp
|
This item was sold on ebay 9/01
These
are two fine pieces of original Dynaco audio equipment. The classic Stereo 70
is a dual monoblock, except for the shared power supply, runs on four EL34's,
two 7199's, and a GZ34 rectifier tube. It has two very high quality output
transformers and can push ~60 watts per channel peak into 4-, 8-, or 16-ohms
using the ultralinear push-pull configuration. It has a stereo/mono switch
on the low level RCA inputs, and grid bias / balance adjustments for fine
tuning the tubes. The PAS2 preamp is another classic piece of equipment that
handles a variety of input sources: phono, FM, AM, cassette, special, and
auxiliary, and has a volume control, separate bass/treble controls for each
channel as well as a balance control and a unique multi-position stereo/mono
selector. It also has a loudness switch and a rumble filter. I am selling
these simply because I already own one of each -- although mine are not in
as pristine condition as the ones for auction here. May the winner enjoy
many more years of that classic Dynaco sound!
- The Dynaco Stereo 70 shown has the typical aging of the chrome on the
outside (a half-dulled look), but still has some shine and no rust or
pitting and can surely be polished nicely with some special chrome
polish. The lettering is still very strong and shows no wear. The inside
still has a nice shine and the wiring was probably factory done because it
is very neat. As far as I know, the entire amp is completely original.
While it still sounds great, it would surely benefit from a new set
of EL34's, as it still runs on the original Mullard EL34's. The rare 7199
preamp tubes it uses are still in excellent condition and are also the
original Mullards. The rectifier tube is original and in very good shape.
The power supply capacitors are probably original and should be replaced as
good practice dictates, but I hadn't taken any notice to hum problems. The
output transformers are very clean and have no rust or paint chips on them.
The perforated steel cover is in excellent condition (with a nice shine),
with only faint surface scratches and no rust. While the amp does not
have a serial number (did they even put them on the amps?), I do have a
wonderful original manual (with S/N) which will be included.

- The Dynaco PAS2 preamp is in exceptional shape with very little
splotching or staining on the polished brass front plate. The lettering
is very strong and there are only light scratches on the plate. The paint
has only surface scratches on it, and there is no rust anywhere on
the chassis. The chassis is very clean, but has the typical light white
oxidation that can probably be cleaned with some kind of polish. The
original paper input/output diagram is still on the back
in perfect shape. The serial number is missing, but it too includes a very
well cared for original Dynaco instruction manual (with S/N).
As with the ST70, it is completely original, including the power cord and
four Mullard 12AX7 preamp tubes. The inside of this preamp is beautifully
clean and well constructed. The controls may use a little cleaning as good
practice dictates, but did not crackle very much at all. Overall, this
preamp works very well. Since the power plug is not polarized, you may
have to flip it to eliminate hum, because one side of the plug is
capacitively coupled to the chassis.
Serious bidders only, please; bidders who do not follow through with the
deal will receive negative feedback. Buyer pays shipping from South East
PA (19341), all sales are final. I can accept money orders, personal
checks, or bank checks. Feel free to contact me for more information:
